Classroom readiness is the top priority when it comes to implementing mainstream programs. Learners need to have the basic skills to participate in a teacher-directed environment. The ability of the learner to join group activities and follow the lead of their teacher will assure them of successful integration in school. It is essential to understand that mainstreaming is a step-by-step process. Each phase is crucial, from learning how to interact with peers to participating in classroom discussions. The smoother the transition, the better the child can adapt to the system. Here are the crucial aspects to consider.
a) The role of resource teachers is to provide assistance and guidance in the classroom setting.
b) The collaboration of different professionals to support the child's participation in school.
c) The gradual transition from a flexible arrangement to a more structured approach.
d) The role of parents is to prepare children for their first exposure to school.
e) The specifications of the classroom and the class population.
f) The preparedness of regular education teachers to attend to children with diverse learning needs.
These are just a few of the many topics that the module will cover. This training is open to parents and schools integrating diverse learners in their classrooms. The workshop will provide a common ground for them to collaborate and design an individualized program.
